Fayette County man pleads guilty to distributing fentanyl

Robert Lee Moran, a 46-year-old resident of Mount Hope, has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl. The plea was entered in Beckley, West Virginia.

Court documents reveal that on January 29, 2024, Moran distributed about one gram of fentanyl to a confidential informant in Beckley. Sentencing is set for April 11, 2025. Moran could face up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years under supervised release, and a fine reaching $1 million.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson. He praised the investigative efforts of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit includes officers from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and Beckley Police Department.

The hearing was overseen by United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn. Assistant United States Attorney Alexander A. Redmon is handling the prosecution.
