A Rapid City man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy. Travis Orr, aged 35, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier to 19 and a half years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The sentencing follows Orr's guilty plea on September 6, 2024, after being indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2023. Between fall 2021 and November 2022, Orr participated in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine throughout South Dakota. During this period, approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine were distributed under Orr's involvement. Additionally, he engaged in trading firearms for methamphetamine.
The investigation was conducted by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET) and the South Dakota Highway Patrol. UNET includes law enforcement from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the South Dakota National Guard. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges.
Following his sentencing, Orr was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
