Attorney General Alan Wilson has issued a warning to four voice service providers regarding their role in transmitting suspected illegal robocall traffic. The companies have been identified as KWK Communications, Inc., Inbound Communications, Inc., AKA Management, Inc., and CallVox LLC.
“We all hate spam calls, robocalls, and scammers, and our efforts to combat them have to be coordinated between the states and federal government,” stated Attorney General Wilson. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with other states in sharing information.
Wilson is part of the 51-attorney general Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force. This task force has been investigating these providers and has shared its findings with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for further action.
The task force's investigation revealed that KWK Communications received numerous traceback notices related to scams involving IRS, Social Security Administration, auto warranties, and utilities. In one month alone in 2022, KWK allegedly routed over 20,000 calls with spoofed numbers and more than 8.7 million calls using invalid Caller ID numbers.
Inbound Communications was also flagged for receiving multiple traceback notices concerning imposter scams between 2021 and 2022. It is estimated that Inbound routed over 28.4 million DirecTV and cable discount scam robocalls in a single month in 2022.
AKA Management received at least 129 traceback notices related to government imposter scams and tech support scams from 2020 to 2022. It allegedly routed about 12.1 million Amazon and Apple imposter robocalls in one month during this period.
CallVox LLC was warned for facilitating unlawful or suspicious robocalls into the U.S., including thousands of calls made to individuals on the Do Not Call list using spoofed numbers.
The task force cautioned these companies that continued transmission of such calls could lead to legal actions against them under state and federal laws.
The Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force aims to hold accountable those responsible for significant volumes of illegal robocall traffic across the United States.
