William Williams, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) McDowell, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison. Following his prison term, he will undergo three years of supervised release. This sentence was handed down for possession of a weapon by an inmate at a federal facility.
Court documents reveal that on December 12, 2022, a staff member at FCI McDowell conducted a random pat-down search of Williams. During this search, a handcrafted weapon known as a "shank" was discovered in his left front pants pocket. The shank was described as a five-inch piece of metal with one sharpened end and a cloth handle. Williams admitted to possessing the shank and acknowledged its design and intent as a weapon.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentencing and praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons under the oversight of Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber.
