U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Daniel Carson Miller, a 30-year-old from Labelle, Florida, to 30 years in federal prison. The charges include enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, receipt of child sexual abuse material, possession and access with intent to view images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, and transferring obscene matter to a minor. In addition to his prison sentence, Miller will face a lifetime of supervised release and must register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty on August 20, 2024.
Court documents reveal that between June and December 19, 2023, Miller used a social media application to chat with minors online. A parent reported to law enforcement that Miller had been communicating with their 13-year-old child while pretending to be 16 years old. During these interactions, he solicited sexually explicit images from the minor. Following his instructions, the teen sent him photos and videos.
In November 2023, the FBI executed a search warrant on Miller's social media account. The investigation uncovered numerous conversations where Miller requested explicit images from minors and sent them photos of his genitals.
The following month, authorities searched Miller's residence. He admitted to using social media for requesting child sexual abuse material from about 100 minors and sending inappropriate photos to around 200 minors. Additionally, he confessed that he sometimes threatened self-harm to obtain explicit images from minors. Forensic analysis of his electronic devices revealed child sexual abuse content.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Yolande G. Viacava.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders who exploit children while also working to identify and rescue victims.
