U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang has sentenced Marquis Hayes Henderson, a 24-year-old from Laurel, Maryland, to seven years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. The sentencing is for robbery and the use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
The announcement was made by Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, alongside Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Baltimore Field Office and Chief Malik Aziz from the Prince George’s County Police Department.
According to Henderson's guilty plea, he and four accomplices met on April 29, 2022, at a storage lot in Clinton, Maryland. They then drove a stolen vehicle to a nearby convenience store where Henderson brandished a firearm at an employee outside before ordering them inside to lie down in one of the aisles. During this time, another accomplice used a power tool to break open the store's ATM while collaborating with another conspirator to steal $35,020 in cash from it. All five fled together in the stolen vehicle.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that unites law enforcement and community members with the aim of reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
U.S. Attorney Barron praised both the FBI and Prince George’s County Police Department for their efforts in investigating this case. He also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua A. Rosenthal and William D. Moomau for prosecuting.
