The James Valley Drug & DUI Court is set to host a graduation ceremony on December 12, 2024, at the Davison County Fairgrounds in Mitchell. This event coincides with Impaired Driving Prevention Month and will feature J.P. Skelly, news director at KORN News Radio, and Kern P., a former graduate of the program, as speakers.

The ceremony celebrates the achievements of participants who have completed all phases of this intensive program. Friends and family are expected to attend, and the public is also invited. A reception will follow the ceremony.

James Valley Drug Court began in 2013 and added a DUI Court track in 2014. Its mission is to offer community-based rehabilitation through intensive treatment and supervision to reduce repeat offenses and substance use disorders. This approach aims to create safer communities while lowering correctional costs.

Impaired Driving Solutions highlights that treatment courts provide essential accountability, treatment, and recovery support services for individuals with repeat impaired-driving offenses. These efforts address underlying issues such as substance use and mental health disorders, benefiting both individuals and public safety in South Dakota.

Throughout December, treatment courts nationwide are organizing events to promote awareness about impaired driving dangers and solutions while celebrating individuals making healthier choices. More information about South Dakota’s treatment courts can be found online.
