Three candidates vie for supreme court judge role in Nebraska's fifth district

David J. A. Bargen from Adams, Jason M. Bergevin from Columbus, and Lawrence E. Welch, Jr. from Plattsmouth have applied for the position of Supreme Court Judge in Nebraska's 5th Judicial District. This district includes several counties such as Butler, Cass, and Clay among others. The vacancy arose following Judge Jeffrey Funke’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court.

The Judicial Nominating Commission will conduct a public hearing at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Aurora on December 12, 2024, starting at 10:00 a.m., where they will interview all candidates.

Members of the public are invited to present testimony to the commission if desired.
