The District Court in Baltimore City is set to commemorate Veterans Day and the eighth anniversary of its Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) with a luncheon for veterans. The event will feature Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Woods as the keynote speaker. Woods, who attended West Point and served two tours in Iraq, is a Bronze Star recipient and currently holds the rank of major in the U.S. Army Reserve.
On November 14, local veterans will be honored for their military service and participation in the VTC program at an event presided over by Senior Judge Halee F. Weinstein of the Baltimore City District Court. Attendees will include judges, court staff, family members, friends, prosecutors, and community partners.
Judge Weinstein founded the VTC in October 2015 as a treatment-based program for veterans charged with misdemeanors or concurrent jurisdiction felonies. To date, approximately 113 veterans have completed this program designed to integrate treatment responses for those with substance use disorders or mental health issues.
The Maryland Judiciary has requested that attendees contact them if they plan to attend or have questions about media coverage. There are specific guidelines regarding photography within the courtroom during the event.
