The District Court in Anne Arundel County is set to host the Schools in the Court program, aimed at educating high school students on the consequences of poor decision-making. Administrative Judge Shaem C.P. Spencer will preside over the event, which will include participation from students attending Crofton, Northeast, and South River high schools.

Through this initiative, students will be exposed to real court cases and hear firsthand accounts from individuals who have faced legal repercussions due to offenses such as drunk driving, speeding, and texting while driving. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage with court personnel in question-and-answer sessions regarding the Judiciary.

This year's program introduces a new mental health component designed to address the crisis's impact on youth. Conducted alongside mental health professionals, this module aims to raise awareness of mental health issues and educate students on recognizing signs of crisis in themselves and others. The program will also highlight available resources and provide guidance on how students can connect with these resources for support.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., taking place in Courtroom 1 at the District Court in Anne Arundel County located at 251 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD.
