Due to an administrative error, the Judiciary misinformed the governor's office about the presence of Hispanic judges in Prince George's County. The initial information incorrectly stated that there were no active Hispanic judges in either the Circuit Court or the District Court of Prince George's County.
To correct this, the Judiciary clarified that there are two current sitting judges in Prince George's County who are Hispanic. Judge Gladys Weatherspoon serves on the circuit court and is identified as Afro-Latina-Hispanic. Additionally, Judge Cheri Simpkins is a judge on the district court and is also Afro-Latina.
The Judiciary has taken steps to rectify this administrative mistake to prevent similar errors in the future. It expressed appreciation for Governor Hogan’s efforts to enhance diversity within judicial appointments across the state, noting his role in achieving historic firsts.
