Maryland judiciary welcomes new leadership with Judge Fader's appointment

Today, Chief Judge Joseph M. Getty released a statement regarding the appointment of Judge Matthew J. Fader as the new chief judge of the Court of Appeals in Maryland. This announcement follows Judge Getty's retirement on April 14.

Chief Judge Getty expressed his congratulations to his successor, stating, "I offer my sincerest congratulations to Chief Judge Matthew J. Fader on his appointment as chief judge of the Court of Appeals following my retirement on April 14." He also acknowledged Governor Hogan for his own appointment, saying, "Thank you, Governor Hogan, for appointing me to serve as chief judge for the last seven and a half months."

Judge Getty highlighted the ongoing changes within the Maryland Judiciary, noting that "the Maryland Judiciary, especially the Court of Appeals, is experiencing a generational change." He emphasized the importance of adapting to these changes and preparing for future challenges: "It is our shared duty to embrace this change and lay a foundation for the future. It is exciting to have new leaders engaged in the many challenges we face today."
