Honorable Matthew Fader Chief Justice | Maryland Judiciary Website

Effective March 18, 2020, a new administrative order in Maryland has halted the foreclosure of residential properties and the rights of redemption for tax sales during the COVID-19 public health emergency. This decision affects cases pending in circuit courts.

Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera has also ordered that all residential evictions pending in the District Court of Maryland be put on hold. This suspension applies to all pending eviction orders until further notice.

While new filings for residential foreclosures, rights of redemption after tax sales, and evictions can still be made, they will not be processed until normal court operations resume or further instructions are provided.

As of 5:00 p.m. on March 18, 2020, Maryland state courts and court offices will remain staffed with essential employees from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
