Towson courthouse relocates temporarily for HVAC repairs

State Supreme Court

The Towson District Courthouse in Baltimore County, Maryland, will temporarily relocate due to necessary HVAC system repairs. The courthouse at 120 E. Chesapeake Avenue will close at the end of business on January 3, 2020, and operations will resume on January 6, 2020, at the new Catonsville District Courthouse located at 1 Rolling Crossroads.

Judge John P. Morrissey, Chief Judge of the District Court of Maryland, stated that "Towson District Court judges, staff, and visitors will start the year at a new location in Catonsville." He assured that "the Maryland Judiciary is committed to making it a seamless transition with no disruption in services for court users."

During this period, all services typically offered at the Towson location will be available at the Catonsville site. This includes operations from the commissioner’s office. Signage has been placed in Towson to inform individuals about the change.

The newly constructed Catonsville District Courthouse spans 130,000 square feet and features eight courtrooms. It offers free parking for up to 425 vehicles and is accessible via Maryland Transit Administration bus lines.

Baltimore County District Court Administrative Judge Dorothy Wilson expressed gratitude for having a temporary venue during repairs: “It is important that employees, judges, and court visitors have a safe and secure environment for conducting the business of the court.”

While Towson's services are relocated to Catonsville, Baltimore County's other district courts in Essex and the old Catonsville location will remain operational. Between January 3 and January 6, commissioner services can be accessed only at these two locations.

Once HVAC repairs are complete, operations will return to Towson. Queries regarding this move can be directed to [email protected], with additional information available online or through signage provided across county courthouses.
