Matthew A. Headley, Michael L. Long, and Ryan J. Stover from Norfolk have submitted their applications to fill a vacancy as District Court Judge in Nebraska's Seventh Judicial District. This district covers Antelope, Cuming, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, and Wayne counties. The vacancy arises due to the retirement of Judge Mark A. Johnson.

The Judicial Nominating Commission will hold its second public hearing at the Madison County Courthouse, scheduled for April 23, 2025, starting at 10:00 a.m. CST. During this hearing, held in Courtroom #1, the commission will interview the candidates.

The public can present views on any candidate at the hearing. Written information and letters of recommendation can be sent to the commission before they select candidates to fill the vacancy. This information should be directed to the commission chair or emailed to ashley.jenkins@nejudicial.gov, where it will remain confidential.

Details on the Judicial Nominating Commission members are available on the Nebraska Judicial Branch's website. For additional requirements concerning the Americans with Disabilities Act, Amy Prenda, ADA Coordinator, can be contacted at (402) 471-3730 or through admin.adacoordinator@nejudicial.gov.

Nebraska's judicial power is distributed among the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district, and county courts, all under the Supreme Court's administration. Additionally, the state system includes separate juvenile courts in three counties and a Workers’ Compensation Court.
