Approximately 100 students from Glen Burnie, Meade, and Southern high schools in Anne Arundel County will participate in the "Schools in the Court" program. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, at 8:30 a.m. and will be held in Courtroom 1 of the Anne Arundel County District Court located at 251 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis.

Anne Arundel County District Court Judge Shaem C.P. Spencer will preside over the program. Students attending will learn about the legal and financial consequences of poor decisions. They will hear from individuals who have been involved with the legal system due to offenses such as drunk driving, speeding, and texting while driving. Additionally, students will observe actual court cases and engage with court personnel through question-and-answer sessions regarding the Judiciary.

Awards will be presented during the event to winners of two contests: Schools in the Court: Better Choices-Better Tomorrow contest and The Honorable Vincent A. Mulieri/Kason Donato Annual Student Spotlight Award. Winning students will receive a cash prize provided by the 21st Century Education Foundation of Anne Arundel County Public Schools system, special recognition during the program, and an opportunity to shadow a member of the Schools in the Court team.

For those interested in attending or seeking further information about camera permissions, contact Maryland Judiciary’s Government Relations and Public Affairs Division via email at [email protected]. Paid parking is available behind the courthouse along Taylor Ave.
