Maryland's top high school mock trial teams are set to compete in the 2019 Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) Mock Trial State Championship. The event will take place on Friday, April 26, at the historic courtroom of the Maryland Court of Appeals in Annapolis.
The championship marks the end of a series of competitions that began in January. High school teams from across the state have been presenting their cases in various courts. Teams that succeeded at local levels advanced to regional competitions, and now, four teams have reached the final stage. These finalists will compete today at the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County under the supervision of Judge Douglas R.M. Nazarian and Judge Stacy W. McCormack.
Court of Appeals Judge Michele D. Hotten will preside over the championship event. The semifinalists include James M. Bennett High School from Wicomico County, Beth Tfiloh High School from Baltimore County, Richard Montgomery High School from Montgomery County, and Baltimore City College from Baltimore.
The competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and it will be held at the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building located at 361 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD 21401.
Interested attendees are encouraged to contact the Maryland Judiciary’s Government Relations and Public Affairs Division via email if they wish to attend. Cameras will be allowed before and after arguments commence at 10 a.m., with live webcasts available on the Judiciary website.
The mock trial competition is sponsored by Maryland Youth & the Law (MYLAW), in collaboration with MSBA and the Maryland Judiciary.
