The Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake’s Lower Shore Career Development Center has recognized the adult drug treatment court program for Wicomico County Circuit Court. The recognition came in the form of a certificate of appreciation, awarded during a graduation ceremony in December 2017.
The adult drug treatment court aims to reduce substance abuse and criminal activity by holding offenders accountable through comprehensive, court-supervised treatment. This approach seeks to enhance the effectiveness of the criminal justice system and improve life quality for all county residents.
“They are certainly a huge asset to our program, participants and community as a whole,” stated Lindsay Tayman, the drug court coordinator.
Goodwill Industries acknowledged the contributions of the drug court team at an event that celebrated individuals who completed career training programs. These programs include job readiness, customer service, and computer skills training.
Tayman emphasized the role of Goodwill's Career Development Center in supporting court programs by providing resources such as job readiness training and assistance with job search and placement. “They work with our program participants to overcome obstacles their criminal history may present in obtaining gainful employment and work to develop relationships with employers in our community,” Tayman added.
This marks the first time that Wicomico County Circuit Court's adult drug treatment court program has received this particular certificate.
