On December 5, Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera of the Maryland Court of Appeals will engage with young students who have contributed to promoting peace through art. This event is part of the 12th annual Conflict Resolution Day art contest hosted by the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO). The reception for contest winners will take place at the Judicial College Education and Conference Center in Annapolis.
The contest received a significant response, with 1,823 entries submitted by students from various parts of Maryland. Of these, 15 bookmarks were selected as winners, while 48 received honorable mentions. A complete list of winners and honorable mentions is available on the Judiciary’s website.
Participants created bookmarks centered around themes of conflict resolution or prevention. Prizes will be awarded across three age categories: kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade, and sixth through eighth grade. The prize amounts are $75 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place in each category.
Chief Judge Barbera will meet with students and their families during the event to deliver remarks and present awards to the winners. The reception is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., located at Maryland Judicial College Education and Conference Center in Annapolis.
Media representatives interested in covering the event should contact the Maryland Judiciary Government Relations and Public Affairs Division at 410-260-1488. Permission must be obtained from families for any use of photos or videos featuring students' artwork.
