The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection held interviews on February 16, 2024, to evaluate seven candidates for a vacancy in the 8th Judicial District Court. Following the interviews, the Commission selected three nominees whose names will be forwarded to Governor Lombardo. The Governor has thirty days from receiving these names to make an appointment.

The vacancy in Department 27 arose due to the retirement of Judge Nancy Allf. Eligible applicants were required to be Nevada attorneys at least 25 years old, with ten years of legal experience and two years of practice and residency in Nevada.

Governor Lombardo is expected to choose an appointee by March 18, 2024. The appointed judge must then run as a candidate in the November 2024 general election if they wish to serve the full term. The current term for district court judges in Nevada ends on January 4, 2027.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection includes seven permanent members and two temporary members per selection process. It comprises the Supreme Court Chief Justice, three non-attorneys appointed by the Governor, and three attorneys appointed by the State Bar of Nevada. Appointments are made ensuring no more than two permanent members belong to the same political party or county. Temporary members are chosen for each selection process by both the Governor and State Bar.
