Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has appointed Erika Mendoza to the Department 27 judicial seat on the Eighth Judicial District Court. This appointment follows the retirement of Judge Nancy Allf. Mendoza has been with the Clark County District Attorney’s office since September 2011, where she served in various capacities including the Gun Crimes Unit, General Litigation Team, and the Appellate Unit.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection conducted interviews with seven applicants for this vacancy. The top three nominees were then submitted to Governor Lombardo for his decision. According to procedure, the governor is allotted thirty days from receiving the applicant names to make an appointment.

Eligibility criteria for applicants seeking a position on the Eighth Judicial District Court bench include being a Nevada attorney in good standing with at least ten years of legal experience, two years of legal practice and residency in Nevada, and being at least 25 years old.

To serve out the full term, Mendoza must file as a candidate in the November 2024 general election. The current term for all district court judges in Nevada concludes on January 4, 2027.
