The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection has received eight applications to fill the vacancy in Department 27 of the Eighth Judicial District Court, as announced by Chief Justice Elissa Cadish. The vacancy arose following the resignation of Judge Nancy Allf in January 2024.

Initially, seven applications were submitted by January 11, 2024. However, after a decision on January 22, 2024, to extend the application deadline by two weeks, one additional application was received by February 6, bringing the total to eight.

The applicants are Martina Bauhaus from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department; David Reed Clayson, a short trial judge and mediator; Tracy Ip Hibbetts from the Clark County District Attorney's Office; Alexandra McCleod from Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker; Erika Mendoza and Robert Allen Stephens, both also from the Clark County District Attorney's Office; and Timothy P. Thomas from his own law firm.

Applicants must have at least ten years of legal experience with two years practiced in Nevada. Interviews for this position are scheduled for February 16, 2024, in Las Vegas and will be streamed live via YouTube. Following these interviews, three finalists will be recommended to Governor Joe Lombardo.

The selection commission consists of seven permanent members including Supreme Court Chief Justice Cadish, three non-attorneys appointed by the Governor, and three attorneys appointed by the State Bar of Nevada. Additionally, two temporary members are selected from within the judicial district where a vacancy occurs.
