The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection met on February 16, 2024, to interview seven candidates for a vacancy in the 8th Judicial District Court. The Commission has nominated three individuals whose names will be sent to Governor Lombardo. He has thirty days from receiving these names to appoint one of them.
This vacancy in Department 27 arose following the retirement of Judge Nancy Allf. To qualify for this position, applicants needed to be Nevada attorneys at least 25 years old with ten years of legal experience and two years of legal practice and residency in Nevada.
Governor Lombardo must make his selection by March 18, 2024. The appointed judge will need to file as a candidate in the November 2024 general election if they wish to serve the full term. All district court judges' current terms end on January 4, 2027.
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection consists of seven permanent members and two temporary members for each selection process. These include the Supreme Court Chief Justice, three non-attorneys appointed by the Governor, and three attorneys appointed by the State Bar of Nevada. Temporary members are chosen by both the Governor and State Bar for each selection process.
