The Sixth Circuit Treatment Court in Pierre, South Dakota, is set to hold a graduation ceremony on November 13, 2024. The event will take place at the Capitol Lake Visitors Center and will begin at 9 a.m. CST. Leta Wise Spirit from Urban Indian Health will be the featured speaker.

This ceremony highlights the significant impact that Treatment Court has on its participants and the community. Although family and friends receive special invitations, the event is open to the public. Media representatives are also invited to attend, with opportunities for interviews available upon request.

Treatment courts have been recognized as an effective approach for addressing substance use and mental health disorders while reducing recidivism rates and saving taxpayer money. These courts combine supervision, treatment, and support to help individuals achieve stability, wellness, and recovery.

The Sixth Circuit introduced DUI court services in 2009 and expanded to include a drug court track in 2014. Now known as the Sixth Circuit Treatment Court, its mission is to enhance public safety and improve life quality for participants through a judicially-supervised program of treatment, supervision, and case management for alcohol or drug-dependent offenders.

Participants are required to complete extensive treatment services, maintain employment, and actively engage within their community. They must reside within 25 miles of the Stanley County Courthouse.
