Attorney General Gentner Drummond has commented on the recent action taken by the Statewide Charter School Board. The board has filed a petition requesting the U.S. Supreme Court to review its case regarding the contract with St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual Charter School.
Drummond had previously initiated a lawsuit in October 2023, challenging this contract. In June, the Oklahoma Supreme Court decided against establishing what would have been the first taxpayer-funded, state-sponsored religious public charter school in the United States. A similar petition from St. Isidore is anticipated later today.
Drummond stated, "I will continue to vigorously defend the religious liberty of all four million Oklahomans. This unconstitutional scheme to create the nation’s first state-sponsored religious charter school will open the floodgates and force taxpayers to fund all manner of religious indoctrination, including radical Islam or even the Church of Satan. My fellow Oklahomans can rest assured that I will always fight to protect their God-given rights and uphold the law."
