Justice court judge vacancy announced for South Salt Lake

Applications are now being accepted for a justice court judge position in South Salt Lake, Utah. This vacancy arises due to the impending resignation of Judge Ryan Richards, who will step down on or before December 31, 2024.

To qualify for the judgeship in Salt Lake County, candidates must meet several criteria: they must be at least 25 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Utah for at least three years. Additionally, they must hold a law degree that qualifies them to apply for bar admission in any state within the United States. Residency requirements also stipulate that applicants should reside in Salt Lake County, an adjacent county, or the judicial district where the justice court is located either upon appointment or shortly thereafter.

According to Utah law, the Judicial Nominating Commission is required to submit three to five nominees to Mayor Cherie Wood of South Salt Lake within 45 days of its initial meeting. Mayor Wood then has 30 days to select a finalist whose appointment must be ratified by the South Salt Lake City Council and certified by the Utah Judicial Council.
