Judicial Resources Commission schedules public hearing for potential vacancy

The Judicial Resources Commission will hold a public hearing on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. CDT in the Supreme Court Courtroom, State Capitol Building in Lincoln, Nebraska. The hearing will consider whether a judicial vacancy exists in the office of the County Court, 10th Judicial District, due to the recent appointment of Judge Timothy Hoeft to the District Court.

Members of the Commission can participate either in-person at the State Capitol or via Zoom. The public also has the option to attend either in-person or via Zoom using a provided public link.

Those wishing to present testimony during the hearing may appear in person at the Supreme Court Courtroom and sign in as a witness or submit written testimony in advance by emailing kara.nielsen@nejudicial.gov or mailing it to Judicial Resources Commission, State Capitol Building, Rm. 2222, P.O. Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509. Written testimonies must be received no later than September 11, 2024. All timely submitted written testimonies will be marked as exhibits and made available to the public.

The Constitution of Nebraska distributes judicial power among various courts including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district courts, and county courts. All state courts operate under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court. Additionally, Nebraska's judicial system includes separate juvenile courts located in Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy Counties and a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court.
