Attorney General Jason Miyares of Virginia has revealed the top 10 consumer complaints received by his office, totaling 6,677 complaints in 2023. Miyares emphasized the importance of being cautious of suspicious offers and reporting any consumer concerns actively. He stated, "My Consumer Protection Section is committed to protecting consumers’ interests and upholding Virginia’s consumer protection laws."

The Attorney General's office functions as the central hub for evaluating and referring consumer complaints in Virginia, handling a substantial number of calls from consumers seeking assistance. Miyares expressed concern over bad actors exploiting Virginians through scams and fraudulent activities, harming both consumers and legitimate businesses in the state.

In addition to receiving and processing complaints, the Consumer Protection Section of the Attorney General's office provides dispute resolution services to aid consumers and businesses in resolving complaints. The Dispute Resolution Unit successfully closed 4,591 consumer complaints last year, resulting in consumers recovering $443,965.

To further assist consumers, the office offers a Consumer Complaint Database where individuals can access information about complaints filed against specific businesses, including the status and outcomes of complaints. Virginians with consumer-related inquiries or complaints are encouraged to reach out to Attorney General Miyares’ Consumer Protection Section for assistance.
