OAKLAND, Calif. (Legal Newsline) — Zoom users are suing over what they say is the company's illegal auto-renewal policy.

Fernanda Warren, on behalf of herself and all others similarly situated, filed a complaint Oct. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Zoom Video Communications Inc., alleging violation of California's Unfair Competition Law and other claims.

Warren, according to her class action lawsuit, purchased a Standard Pro monthly subscription to a Zoom Whiteboard in May of 2022, and also purchased a Standard Pro monthly subscription. She alleges that Zoom's automatic renewal is a "scheme" and that despite cancelling her subscription in June 2022, her request was not honored and she was billed for another month.

She claims Zoom's practice is to continue to charge customers monthly fees even after they attempt to cancel membership. Warren also claims Zoom is aware the practice deceives customers and that hundreds of Zoom subscribers have complained about their cancellations not being honored. She alleges Zoom's actions violate state automatic renewal laws.

Warren and the class seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Jeffrey Kaliel and Sophia Goren Gold of Kalielgold PLLC in Washington, D.C., Berkeley, Calif., and Los Angeles.
