NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - Forbes Media faces a class action lawsuit that alleges it discloses its subscribers' video views, in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.
Plaintiff Joseph Lamb filed suit July 26 in New York federal court, targeting Forbes' use of the "Facebook pixel." If a Forbes visitor watches a video on that site while logged into Facebook, that information is tracked, the suit says.
"Forbes discloses this information so it can better match visitors to their Facebook profiles, which thereby allows Forbes to better track analytics and target its advertisements," the suit says.
"By compelling a visitor's browser to disclose the advanced matching parameters alongside event data for videos, Forbes knowingly discloses information sufficiently permitting an ordinary person to identify a specific individual's video viewing behavior."
Three firms are pursuing the case: Bursor & Fisher, Milberg Coleman and Shamis & Gentile.
