LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - Marriott records phone calls without informing the other party, a new class action lawsuit says.
Faisal Moledina sued Marriott International on May 6 in Los Angeles federal court, represented by Kazerouni Law Group of Costa Mesa. The suit says Marriott is in violation of the California Invasion of Privacy Act of 1967.
Moledina called The Stoneleigh in Dallas to inquire about booking a room on April 14. He says he asked whether it would be cheaper to book directly with the hotel or with a third party.
He was told The Stoneleigh would match any price, leading him to ask whether the call was being recorded.
"In response, Defendant's agent attempted to evade Plaintiff's question, which prompted Plaintiff to ask a second time whether Plaintiff was being recorded," the suit says.
After asking a third time, Moledina says he was told the call was being recorded. "Subsequently thereafter, the plaintiff heard successive beeping sounds and his call with Defendant's agent was disconnected," the suit says.
The suit seeks $5,000 for each violation.
