SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - Amazon faces another class action lawsuit from unhappy customers, as lawyers at Bursor & Fisher filed suit on May 5 alleging the company unlawfully automatically renews memberships.

Three plaintiffs allege a "scheme" that forced them to enroll in auto-renewal membership programs to access certain products and services. They filed suit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California alleging violation of the state's Automatic Renewal Law.

"(W)hen consumers sign up for the Amazon subscriptions, Defendant actually enrolls consumers in a program that automatically renews the... subscriptions from month-to-month or year-to-year and results in monthly or annual charges to the consumer's credit card, debit card, or third-party payment account," the suit says.

"In doing so, Defendant fails to provide the requisite disclosures and authorizations to be made to California consumers..."

The subscriptions at issue are Prime, Prime Video, Prime Video Channels, Music Unlimited, Book Box, Kids+, Kindle Unlimited, Audible and Photos.

Lawyers at Reese LLP sued Amazon a week earlier over Audible subscriptions. That case says consumers have been misled into paying for Audible subscriptions they believed were included with their Prime memberships.
