SAN JOSE, Calif. (Legal Newsline) - The San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League face a class action lawsuit by an employee who alleges the team failed to pay him overtime and minimum wage and didn't provide meal breaks.
Plaintiff Sukhber Singh hopes to represent a class of other employees and filed suit Feb. 24 in Santa Clara Superior Court. He is represented by Moon & Yang of Los Angeles.
Singh is a former security guard and guest services representative who worked for the Sharks for two years, until October. He says he typically worked more than eight hours in a single workday but was not paid for overtime.
The Sharks allegedly failed to provide him with uninterrupted meal and rest periods and didn't reimburse him for necessary business expenses like masks and wipes. When he was fired, the Sharks failed to pay his final wages in an appropriate amount of time, he claims.
"Defendants failed to authorize Plaintiff and the class to take rest breaks, regardless of whether employees worked more than four hours in a workday," the suit says.
