Archer is pleased to announce that partner Lori Grifa has been confirmed by the New Jersey Senate to be a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Essex County Vicinage. A Montclair resident since 2003, Grifa was recommended to the bench by Senator Nia H. Gill and formally nominated by the Governor for the position last month. She is set to be sworn in to her new role in early February.
Grifa has divided her career between the public and private sectors and is an expert in government affairs, regulatory and administrative law. Admitted to practice law in 1989, Grifa joined Archer in 2015.

Known for her passion, commitment and strong moral compass, Grifa has always been fascinated by the power and importance of advocacy. In her over 30-year career, Grifa worked to expertly untie the administrative and regulatory knots that frustrate and plague the business community on matters involving the New Jersey Departments of Community Affairs, Banking & Insurance, Environmental Protection, Health, Human Services, Labor, Transportation and Treasury, as well as the state’s professional Licensing Boards and the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Prior to joining Archer, Grifa served Governors from both sides of the aisle. From 2010 to 2012, Grifa served as commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs under then-Gov. Chris Christie. From 2002 to 2003, she served as Chief of Staff to the New Jersey Attorney General. She started her career in 1989 as an assistant district attorney in the office of the Brooklyn District Attorney and later served as a special assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, specializing in gang-related homicide prosecutions. She moved on to private practice in 1997.
Lori has received appointments by the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court to a number of important attorney committees, including the Committee for Women and the Courts and the State Domestic Violence Working Group. She also served as a member of the District 5A Attorney Ethics Committee.
A graduate of Boston College School of Law, Grifa served as law clerk to Judge Elbert Tuttle of the Superior Court of Massachusetts. She earned her B.A., cum laude, from Rutgers University.
