NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) -- A man claims to have suffered race-based discrimination while employed by as a security officer.

Christian Andrews filed a complaint on May 12 in New York County Supreme Court against International Protection Group LLC for race-based discrimination.

According to the complaint, Andrews was employed by International Protection Group LLC as a security officer. Andrews began working for the company in October 2014 and from July 2015 to August 2020 was a field supervisor.

Andrews alleged that he continuously was overlooked for further promotion because of his race, and was demoted towards the end of his employment as retaliation for reports of discrimination made to the CEO.

Andrews alleged that the Director of Operations and Vice President would refer to Andrews as "being from the hood," would call him "little sunshine" and when dealing with rough areas and would say Andrews "knows how to deal with these people” as he "is one of them." In one incident, Andrews was overlooked for a promotion and upon asking the Director of Operations as to why he was passed up, the Director of Operations allegedly replied “this is how you win the game, by putting a white face in front to represent the company.”

In August 2020, Andrews was allegedly demoted to dispatcher and was ultimately forced to decide to resign.

Andrews seeks liquidated and compensatory damages in the amount of $500,000 plus attorney's fess and cost of suit. Andrews is represented by Christopher H. Lowe of Lipsky Lowe LLP.
