BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) – New York City and several of its police officers are facing a civil lawsuit that claims the cops chased, assaulted and arrested three individuals without reason to.
Shaqueena Durden, Alfred Collins and Quantina Peebles filed a civil rights case on March 23 in Brooklyn federal court through attorney Amy Rameau. The case seeks punitive damages in addition to compensatory damages requested for seven causes of action, which include malicious prosecution, excessive force and false arrest.
The incident occurred March 23 on East 51st St. The three plaintiffs said it was there that the defendant officers chased and assaulted them without cause.
“The defendants denied Plaintiffs medical assistance for some time,” the suit says. “Plaintiffs were then transported to Central Booking where they were subsequently arraigned on various charges based on fabricated claims by one or more defendants.
“All charges against Plaintiffs were dismissed and sealed.”
The plaintiffs say they suffered physical injury, loss of liberty, loss of reputation and mental, physical and emotional harms.
