NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) – A woman is using New York City after she says one of its elevators malfunctioned, leaving her and her child trapped as they tried to get to the subway.

Hong-Zhen Zhou filed the case March 5 in New York County Supreme Court against the New York City Transit Authority over an incident that occurred in December 2019. She says she was trying to get to the 59th Street Subway Station by using an elevator, since she was pushing a stroller.

She blames NYC for not inspecting or repairing the elevator’s problems. She says it had actual notice of the “hazardous, dangerous, trap-like condition.”

“Defendants… negligently and carelessly failed to provide a safe elevator, failed to warn, failed to plan, failed to investigate, failed to provide emergency services, failed to maintain, failed to take reasonable precautions, failed to place protective barriers, barricades or signs at said location, and were otherwise negligent,” the suit says.

Zhou claims she became sick, sore, lame and disabled after sustaining serious and permanent injuries. Her injuries are not specified.

She is represented by the law firm Hongzhen Zhou.
