Pillsbury Winthrop Shaww Pittman LLP issued the following announcement on Feb. 14.
Ari Berman, a seasoned commercial litigator with a significant focus on the financial services and life sciences industries, has joined Pillsbury’s rapidly growing New York office as partner. He comes to the firm from Vinson & Elkins LLP.
Berman operates a broad litigation practice, with an emphasis on disputes involving federal securities laws. Over his almost-20-years of practice, he has represented companies such as Teva Pharmaceuticals, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure, Apollo, Credit Suisse and Riverstone. Berman has substantial experience representing companies and individuals—including public companies, financial institutions, private investment funds, and officers and directors—in contexts such as investigations and enforcement proceedings by the SEC, FINRA and other law enforcement and regulatory agencies. He also has represented numerous companies in bankruptcy court proceedings and investors in distressed settings.
“Ari is known as both a tireless advocate in the courtroom and a trusted business advisor outside of it,” said Litigation section leader Debby Baum. “His arrival affords our clients access to another talented litigator capable of seeing them through a variety of commercial, securities, private equity and bankruptcy disputes while also continuing the ongoing expansion of our New York office.”
Berman is the latest of several prominent partners to join Pillsbury’s New York office in recent months. Leading project finance partner Mona Dajani joined in January of this year, while in 2018 the firm added litigator Geoffrey Sant and a five-lawyer team focused on Chinese disputes; respected international arbitration practitioner Robert Sills; a renowned bi-coastal State & Local Tax team co-led by New York-based partner Marc Simonetti; a highly regarded five-lawyer leveraged/ acquisition finance group fronted by partners Michael Michetti, Joel Simon and Joseph Fastiggi; and corporate partner Michael Flynn, who primarily advises early- and growth-stage clients in the technology and life sciences sectors.
