WASHINGTON, D.C. — A recently published fiscal year 2018 performance report by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) shows the agency obtained more than $500 million in relief for workplace discrimination victims as well as a 30 percent increase in discrimination inquiries through its new online system,  according to the agency.

According to the EEOC, performance report, the government agency's new public portal "online inquiry and appointment system" resulted in more than 40,000 "intake interviews" as well as the increase in inquiries.

The EEOC also states in its FY 2018 report that the agency helped to gain relief for more than 67,000 affected by workplace discrimination. The discrimination investigations led to the resolution of 141 "merit lawsuits" and the filing of nearly 200 more suits from the previous fiscal year. The agency was also able to file 29 amicus curiae briefs relating to major discrimination cases, according to the report.

The EEOC's backlogs were also addressed in the agency's latest report, which stated the EEOC saw nearly 20 percent less in its "private sector charge backlog" as well as nearly a 20 percent backlog reduction for appeals from federal employees. The agency also reports a decrease in hearing backlogs for federal employees and a smaller accumulation of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) inquiries.
