ORRICK HERRINGTON & SUTCLIFFE: Orrick Named to National Law Journal’s Appellate Hot List for Seventh Time

Trophy

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.

Orrick has been named to the National Law Journal’s Appellate Hot List for the seventh time, capping a year in which our Supreme Court and Appellate Practice argued and prevailed in five cases during the high court’s last term and secured important wins in appeals courts around the country.

The publication recognized Orrick among 22 firms on the 2018 Hot List, which featured appellate practices that “won key matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeal.” Four different Orrick partners argued the five cases before the Supreme Court, the most of any law firm, and our teams also won major cases in the appeals courts for clients such as Oracle and Apple.

The National Law Journal feature included a Q & A with partner Bob Loeb, who secured a rare unanimous ruling from the Supreme Court in a major Fourth Amendment clash in Byrd v. United States. Describing Orrick’s approach to appellate success during the past year, Bob observed: “Rather than building an appellate practice around one star partner, ours is a constellation model approach, with multiple super-talented appellate partners, each handling high-stakes appeals.”

In addition to Bob, Josh Rosenkranz, head of our Supreme Court and Appellate Practice, argued two of the Supreme Court cases, as well as winning a major Federal Circuit ruling that revived Oracle’s $8 billion copyright infringement case against Google. Partners Kelsi Brown Corkran and Eric Shumskyalso won cases in the Supreme Court last term.
