Greenberg Traurig, LLP issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

Lori G. Cohen, Co-Chair of the Global Litigation Practice at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was named “2018 Product Liability Attorney of the Year” by LMG Life Sciences, the definitive guide to leading North American law firms and lawyers specialized in the life sciences industry. She was also inducted into the guide’s Life Sciences Hall of Fame.

The guide’s LMG Life Sciences Awards recognize key law firms, lawyers, and the innovative work being accomplished throughout the life sciences industry.

Cohen and the other award recipients were honored at a dinner on Sept. 12 at the Essex House in New York City. According to the guide, “Among the highlights of the night was the induction of [five] exceptional life sciences attorneys into the Hall of Fame for their remarkable careers dedicated to clients in the industry.” In addition to Cohen, also honored were Ron Dimock, Anthony Figg, Judith Hasko, and Catherine Polizzi.

LMG Life Sciences rankings and awards are based on marketplace and client feedback, as well as information provided by firms, which can only be ranked if the market deems them worthy of consideration.

LMG Life Sciences notes: “The intricacies of life science products require a diverse array of legal expertise across many disciplines. From regulatory approval or patent filing to collaborative transactions or product liabilities, legal practitioners play an important role in guiding a product through its life cycle. Furthermore, products born from biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, and agritech companies demand a sophisticated scientific understanding. Mindful of these difficulties, LMG Life Sciences aims to present attorneys and firms in a way that speaks to the intricacies of both the legal market and the life sciences industry.”

In addition to her global litigation position, Cohen serves as Chair of the firm's Trial Practice Group, as well as Chair of the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice. She is also Co-Chair of the Atlanta Litigation Practice. She has a national litigation practice focusing on product liability litigation and, specifically, medical device and pharmaceutical litigation. Cohen has served as both national counsel and regional counsel for pharmaceutical and medical device companies and has expertise in mass tort, multidistrict, and class action litigation. She also has vast experience in other products liability litigation and jury trials of all kinds. She has defended numerous health care providers, including physicians, hospitals, and managed care entities nationwide.

Cohen is known for having obtained and impressive and powerful 57 defense verdicts at trial. As such, she is frequently recognized for her legal achievements. She has been listed in Chambers Global Guide, Chambers USA Guide, The Legal 500 United States, Benchmark, Super Lawyers magazine, and The Best Lawyers in America, among others. Cohen has also been named one of LMG Life Sciences’ “Life Science Stars,” Law360’s “Tria lMVPs,” and has been shortlisted for Euromoney Legal Media Group’s “Americas Women in Business Law Awards” since 2013.
