EEOC takes action against Country Fresh for alleged sex discrimination

Discrimination 12

DETROIT (Legal Newsline) – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced that it has sued Country Fresh, a milk and juice manufacturer and division of Dean Foods, over allegations of subjecting female employees to sex discrimination.

Country Fresh in Grand Rapids allegedly denied promotions on a repeated basis to a female employee because of her gender. The employee had been with the company’s Livonia plant for years and had decades of experience yet was passed up for promotions in favor of male co-workers, according to the complaint.

"Failing to promote a qualified female employee because of her sex violates federal law and is completely unacceptable," said EEOC Trial Attorney Nedra Campbell. "EEOC will continue to fight for the victims of sex discrimination to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to advance at work."

EEOC seeks an injunction to bar the company from this type of alleged discrimination in the future. It will also aim to recover monetary relief on behalf of the employee.
