Dennis M. Sobolik, a long-time resident of Hallock, Minnesota, passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 93. He died peacefully at Kittson Memorial Nursing Home.
Born on September 16, 1931, in Fordville, North Dakota, Dennis was the son of D.J. and Belle Sobolik. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
On January 28, 1956, Dennis married Marlene Olson. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Dakota and moved to Hallock in 1959 to practice law with Lyman Brink. His legal career spanned five decades.
Dennis and Marlene shared 46 years together before her passing in 2002. They had four children and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. Their travels included involvement with Operation Bootstrap in Africa and summers at Arneson’s Rocky Point Resort.
In February 2003, Dennis married Cynthia Blomquist. The couple spent winters in Arizona and cherished family gatherings.
Dennis balanced his professional life as a lawyer and banker with public service commitments. He was recognized as a Leading American Attorney and served on several bank boards including Karlstad State Bank, Argyle State Bank, and Crookston National Bank. His community involvement included serving on the Kittson County Fair Board for 46 years and the Kittson Memorial Foundation for 25 years. He also held trustee positions at Gustavus Adolphus College and Northwestern Theological Seminary.
He is survived by his wife Cindy; son Bradley Sobolik; daughter Cara Plaine; daughter-in-law Jane Kelly; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; siblings Joann Aamoth and Bob Sobolik; stepchildren Paul Blomquist, Jon Blomquist, Kathy Blomquist; along with many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his first wife Marlene; daughter Janet; son Blake; daughter-in-law Wendy; parents D.J. and Belle Sobolik; sisters Sharlene Schultz and Shirley Aarff.
A funeral service took place on May 17 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
