Renard Levenberry, a 29-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in two separate shootings at Starburst Plaza during the summer of 2024. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Levenberry entered a guilty plea on February 24th in D.C. Superior Court. He admitted to one count of aggravated assault while armed and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence related to a shooting on June 13, 2024. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm concerning an incident on August 20, 2024.
According to evidence presented by the government, Levenberry was involved in an attempted robbery at Starburst Plaza on June 13, where he shot the victim in the leg before fleeing. On August 20, he fired multiple shots at an individual on a moped without provocation; this resulted in injury to a bystander waiting at a nearby bus stop.
Both incidents were recorded on video surveillance and supported by DNA and ballistics evidence.
U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith praised the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department investigators who worked on the case. They also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Helfand and Kraig Ahalt for their roles in investigating and prosecuting Levenberry's case.
