A detainee at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center has confessed to his involvement in a scheme to smuggle contraband into the facility, as reported by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Shawn D. Hart, aged 46, entered a guilty plea for charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and attempting to obtain prohibited items while incarcerated. Hart admitted that he collaborated with others inside and outside the detention center in late 2023 to procure and introduce papers soaked with K2, a synthetic marijuana, into the facility.
Court records revealed that on December 1, 2023, sheets of paper confirmed by an FBI testing lab as treated with Schedule I controlled substances were given to Hart's associate for smuggling purposes. Theresa Marie DiJoseph, aged 51 and personally connected to Hart, exploited her attorney status for regular "contact" visits with him without barriers. Correctional officers at Wyatt intercepted the tainted papers from DiJoseph during her entry attempt.
Hart's sentencing is set for November 18, 2025.
DiJoseph previously pleaded guilty on March 12, 2025, to charges including possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance analogue and conspiracy related offenses. Her sentencing is scheduled for June 12, 2025.
The sentences will be decided by a federal district judge following consideration of U.S. Sentencing Guidelines among other statutory factors.
Assistant United States Attorneys Julianne Klein and Peter I. Roklan are prosecuting these cases.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI along with the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center Professional Standards Unit.
