The Clerk of Court Association wrapped up its annual conference on May 15 in Bismarck, after a day and a half dedicated to professional development. The event, held from May 14 to 15, gathered over 50 participants, including District and Municipal Court clerks from across the state.

The conference agenda focused on current challenges and evolving responsibilities within the court system. Key topics discussed included judicial complaints, legislative updates affecting court operations, workforce management strategies, language access in courts, and evidence handling for clerks.

The event underscored the crucial role that Clerks of Court and their Deputies play in ensuring the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of North Dakota’s judicial system. These professionals are essential to daily court operations by documenting legal proceedings, maintaining public records, and administering justice effectively.

As court systems continue to change, such conferences provide an educational platform while fostering collaboration and innovation among court officials statewide.

Presenters Kristen Vetter and Kathy Frelich from the North Dakota School for the Deaf highlighted challenges faced by some patrons and offered helpful accommodations for those needing court services.
