Attorney General Neronha announced that a Rhode Island court has granted a preliminary injunction to stop the termination of nearly $11 billion in public health grants. This legal action was initiated by Neronha's office alongside 22 other attorneys general.
"If we don’t have our health, we don’t have anything, and that’s why today’s preliminary injunction is such a critical win," stated Attorney General Neronha. He expressed concern over Secretary Kennedy's recent comments to Congress and criticized the decision to cut essential funding for public health initiatives.
Neronha emphasized the importance of these funds, which are designated for childhood vaccination, addressing health disparities among underserved populations, and enhancing laboratory testing capacity. "A hacksaw approach to government reduction will never yield positive results for the American people," he said. The attorney general vowed continued legal efforts against what he described as harmful actions by the Trump Administration.
The lawsuit is co-led by Attorney Generals Phil Weiser (Colorado), Rob Bonta (California), Keith Ellison (Minnesota), and Nick Brown (Washington). They are joined by their counterparts from Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, and Wisconsin.
