Attorney General Dave Sunday expressed gratitude to the Pennsylvania Senate for their role in advancing a statewide task force aimed at addressing recruitment and retention challenges within law enforcement. The initiative follows the adoption of Senate Resolution 94, which tasks the Joint State Government Commission with forming the Task Force on Recruitment and Retention of Law Enforcement. Senators Wayne Langerholc and Joe Picozzi sponsored this resolution.

Attorney General Sunday is set to lead the task force as its chairperson. He shared his perspective, stating, "As district attorney, I experienced first-hand staffing challenges attracting both prosecutors and law enforcement personnel to these professions. In my first months as Attorney General, difficulties in the recruitment and retention of officers has been a consistent concern from law enforcement leadership across the Commonwealth."

Sunday emphasized the importance of these roles: "These noble professions are depended on by people and families to keep neighborhoods safe." He extended his thanks to Senators Langerholc and Picozzi for spearheading this legislative effort and expressed his anticipation in chairing the task force. "Establishing this task force is a perfect way to mark National Police Week by turning our support of law enforcement into action," he added.

The focus of the task force will be on staffing issues faced by police departments, sheriff agencies, corrections departments, and prosecutors’ offices. It aims to develop policy recommendations that enhance efforts in recruitment and retention.
