Te’Vaughn Brown, a 20-year-old resident of the District, has been indicted by a grand jury in the Superior Court for felony assault with significant bodily injury on a senior citizen. The charge is related to an unprovoked attack on an elderly man at the Navy Yard Metro Station last summer. This was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

The jury trial for this case is set to begin on July 14, 2025. Brown is also awaiting trial in another case in Superior Court where he faces misdemeanor charges for simple assault and theft.

According to evidence presented by the government, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on August 9 when the victim exited a train at the station and encountered Brown sitting on stairs leading from the platform to the mezzanine level. As the victim attempted to maneuver around Brown, he reportedly grabbed the victim's leg and proceeded to punch him repeatedly in the head and face before fleeing. The victim sustained multiple injuries including a fractured nasal bone, broken tooth, scalp contusion, and a mouth laceration requiring twenty stitches.

Brown will be arraigned on this felony charge before Judge Jennifer Di Toro. If convicted, he could face an enhanced penalty due to the crime being committed against a person aged 65 or older. This enhancement allows for up to one and a half times the maximum fine and imprisonment term otherwise authorized for such an offense.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Lieberman from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is prosecuting it.

It should be noted that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
