Jason Douglas MaComber, a 52-year-old resident of St. Albans, West Virginia, was sentenced to three years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possessing a firearm as a felon. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.
Court documents reveal that on June 12, 2023, MaComber had a Remington model 870 Wingmaster 12-gauge shotgun in his possession in St. Albans. Federal law prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions from owning firearms or ammunition. MaComber's criminal history includes convictions for possession of dangerous drugs and controlled substances in 2007, possession of a firearm by a felon in 2014, and illegal firearm transportation in 2019—all adjudicated in San Bernardino, California.
The shotgun found with MaComber had been modified with a shortened barrel and was not registered under the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record as required by federal regulations.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston praised the investigative efforts of the St. Albans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum led the prosecution.
